Ten Things We’ve Learned So Far

Happy to have a new friend (hope to meet her soon) who just moved to Maui from Maryland. I love meeting new people who love Maui as much as I do.

1) Everyone (so far) has been super helpful and kind!  (See previous blog posts for examples!)

2) “Early to bed, early to rise…” is totally practiced here!  Allow me to expand on this: It seems that many folks here are able to rise with the sun but ease into the day with time for a workout and to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea before starting the work day.  Many businesses are shut down by mid-late afternoon which allows family and recreational time before the sun sets.  And since we rise with the sun, we’re ready to jump into bed by 9:00 or 10:00pm.  (Note:  I realize that this schedule does not apply to everyone and also that the main reason for earlier hours is to do business with the mainland, but it’s actually a great schedule to live by for us!)

I am lazy. There’s no two ways about it.

If people really knew what filled a typical day for me, they would probably be appalled. For instance, I’ve never held a full time job longer than two months in my whole life. Currently I don’t have a job at all and I don’t intend to get one. Neither do I have a driver’s license, or any savings, or a ‘life’ at all by any standard. I’m also getting fatter and heavier by the day – so much so I can barely recognise myself and I’m spotting new stretch marks on my shape-shifting body on each occasion I take a shower. And yet I’m apathetic. I’m 24 now. Oh, and I live with my parents.

New Bride!

New Bride!

What a beautiful day for a wedding; I was made his. It took much longer than anticipated to get ready and I was late to the beach. I am blessed and grateful to have had the dream wedding on the beach at Kalepolepo Park on Maui.
